Ethically produced luxury towels. Crafted in the San Andres Valley.
Hilasal towels are certified 100% American-grown cotton—the finest cotton fiber in existence. American cotton is grown fairly under the most rigorous and regulated fair labor and sustainability practices. In fact, two-thirds of U.S. cotton farmland uses only rain water, promoting laudable water use efficiency. Once matured, the premium cotton is brought to the San Andres Valley in El Salvador to be woven and finished in our eco-conscious facility. Hilasal’s operation prioritizes environmental stewardship with seismic waste reduction and water purification as well as social responsibility through the education of Central American youth.
We Are the Riverkeepers
While most textile mills apply only a two-step water treatment procedure, Hilasal practices an extensive seven-step water purification process. Our state-of-the-art water treatment and conservation facilities allow us to purify the water we use to its fullest extent and return it to the valley river from which it was derived. Hilasal also uses only biodegradable dyes to prevent dye runoff and contamination to keep our rivers clean.
Converting 97% of Waste into Power
The common thread among textile manufacturing is: waste. But, Hilasal’s award-winning waste management practices battles this unfortunate norm. We feed all of our textile waste to a clean incinerator which generates steam to power our facility—97% of our textile waste is reused as power without burning any fossil fuels. We also collect 90% of local supplier waste and recycle it as energy for our mill, diverting more than 80,000 tons of textile waste from landfills since we began this process 13 years ago.
The Fiber of Our Future: Education
Piloted in 2004 to bridge the gap between promising, underprivileged youth from El Salvador and the growing need for local businesses to hire English-speaking talent with computing skills, Hilasal’s visionary educational program, “¡Supérate!”, was born. Providing high-quality training in English, computer science, and core values, ¡Supérate! has since grown to 10 learning centers across El Salvador and Panama and has benefitted nearly 4,000 high school students and counting.
